James Walling Obituary


Jim Walling MUSCADINE, Ala. - Mr. James Kenneth "Jim" Walling, 74, of the 100 block of County Road 180, passed away Sept. 18, 2008. Mr. Walling was born Feb. 10, 1934, in Elkhart, Texas, to the late Ira Francis and Mary Swinney Walling Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Rita Johnson and brothers, Faulkner Walling, Harold Walling, Charles Walling, Richard Walling and Ira Francis Walling Jr. Mr. Walling and his wife enjoyed living 40 years in Norfolk before returning to his wife's home in Alabama. He retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 20 years during both the Korean conflict and Vietnam. He retired again after many years as a commercial electrician. His greatest accomplishment and love of his life was his family. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He loved his country, his workshop and his animals. Mr. Walling is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joyce Brooks Walling of Muscadine; son, Harvey Bennett of Buchanan; grandchildren, Jason and Amanda Bennett of Bremen, C.C. Bennett and Serahjo Bennett, both of Fruithurst and Amber Wilson of Norfolk; sister, Lena Phillips; brothers and sisters-in-law, Cecil and Louise Walling and A.L. and Sandra Koehler, all of Palestine, Texas; five great-grand companions, Annabell, Dewee, Chula, Sadie and Scooter; one great-grand kitty, Roxie; and numerous nieces and nephews. In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Walling was cremated and the family is holding a private memorial service at a later date. Sympathies may be sent to the family at www.miller-funeralhome.com. Miller Funeral Home of Tallapoosa was in charge of the arrangements.
