Vera Elder Obituary


Kathleen B. Elder CHESAPEAKE - Vera Kathleen Berry Elder, 84, of the 3200 block of Walden St., passed away Friday, Sept. 26, 2008. Born in Galena, Kan., she was the daughter of the late Charles Berry and Agnes Circle Berry Stillson and was the widow of Rexford "Rex" Franklin Elder. She was also predeceased by a sister, Mildred Lambert and stepfather, Dwight Stillson. In her early years, Mrs. Elder enjoyed working at the telephone company. She loved and was an active member of Raleigh Heights Baptist Church and the 1st Seniors Citizens Club. She was always on the go and enjoyed traveling and visiting. She'll be missed by all her friends at Hardee's. Survivors include her children, Kathy Martin, Karl Elder and Kim Elder; two sisters, Rilda Lujan and Wilmetta Hoffer; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a host of wonderful friends. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the Francis Gay Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 1146 Rodgers St., Chesapeake, VA 23324. The Rev. Jim Thompson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Raleigh Heights Baptist Church, 1000 Crowell Ave., Chesapeake, VA 23324. Friends are also invited to send condolences and sign the online guestbook at www.omanfh.com.
