Leonard Wagner Obituary


Leonard V. Wagner Sr. CHESAPEAKE - Leonard V. "Popeye" Wagner Sr. passed away Sept. 28, 2008, surrounded by his family. Leonard retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service to his country. Born in Omaha, Neb., to the late Charles and Gertrude Wagner and was preceded in death by his wife, Helen M. Wagner. Left to cherish his memory are his four sons, Leonard V. and Judith Wagner Jr. of Billings, Mont., Stephen G. and MaryAnn Maroulis of Chesapeake, Robert A. and Carole Wagner of Knoxville, Tenn., and Eric A. and Lynn Wagner of Prince George County, Virginia; his three daughters, Virginia R. Leeper of Norfolk, Trudi Skidmore and Todd Ailstock of Norfolk, and Celia and Jay Bradshaw of Virginia Beach; along with 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, as well as his sister, Lois Smith of Carson City, Nev. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Christus with full military honors provided by the U.S. Navy. I wish I could be there. I love you all and I know he's better now. When I see him in my memories he's always laughing and I think it's because he made it to Grandma. I love you, Grandpa and I'll miss your stories and your pancake men.
