Edith Wenger Obituary
Edith H. Wenger CHESAPEAKE - Edith Grace Hertzler Wenger, 87, passed away Sept. 26, 2008, in her home in Chesapeake. Her devoted husband of 66 years, John D. Wenger, and members of the family bid her a tearful goodbye. A devout Christian and longtime member of the Mt. Pleasant Mennonite Church, she leaves behind many friends and family members who will cherish the memories and her sense of humor. Edith loved letter writing; her letters to the family newsletter were insightful and interesting. She enjoyed flowers, squirrels, and birds in the year. Providing quilts for each family was a pasttime. As the grandchildren number grew it was a neverending endeavor. She was an active and energetic person (Raising nine children, she had to be). From a neverending stream of Bible stories read to the children years and years ago to countless family reunions, she was the glue that held the family together. Edith was the mother of nine children (from oldest to youngest): Harold Wenger and his wife Christine of Mesa, Ariz., Howard Wenger and his wife Melody of Pilot, Va., Sidney Wenger and his wife Teresa of Virginia Beach, Preston Wenger and his wife Rebecca of Norfolk, Richard Wenger and his wife Patricia of Seattle, Louise and her husband Linford Sommers of Sarasota, Fla., Beverly and her husband Tom Mitchell of Portland, Ore., Christine and her husband Gary Nofsinger of Marcellus, Mich., Barbara and her husband Joe Cippola of Green Oaks, Ill.; there are 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her brother, Harry Hertzler of Mount Pleasant Mills, Pa.; her sister, Osie Zeigler of Harrisonburg, Va.; and her brother, Oliver Hertzler of Denbigh, Va. John Wenger and family members would like to thank the Chesapeake General Hospital Hospice Care for their involvement. The memorial service will be held Sunday at the Mt. Pleasant Mennonite Church on Mt. Pleasant Road at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, all donations should be made to the Mennonite Central Committee U.S., 21 S. 12th St., P.O. Box 500, Akron, PA 17501-0500, (717) 859-1151.
