George Farquhar Obituary

George B. Farquhar VIRGINIA BEACH - George Boyd "Scottie" Farquhar, 89, passed peacefully into bliss Sept. 29, 2008, after a courageous battle with a rapid-spreading cancer. He was born Nov. 4, 1918, in Jersey City, N.J., the son of the late John Dundee and Cecilea Farquhar. Scottie joined the Seabees out of high school and then joined the U.S. Navy in January of 1937. He retired after 30 years of active duty which included three wars, numerous funny stories including fishing with President Roosevelt, seven Good Conduct awards and seven medals which included the World War II Victory Medal. After Navy retirement, he went to work for civil service in San Diego, Calif., until 1974 and then moved to Virginia Beach to be close to family. Scottie was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 40 years, Roseann Constance Constantino formerly of Boston. Left to cherish his memory are his niece, Vickie Constantion of Virginia Beach; and a host of friends, neighbors and pals who will miss him deeply. A special thanks to Heartland Hospice, Randi Crumrine, Ema Martin and his wonderful neighbors. A graveside service will be held today in Forest Lawn Cemetery at 3 p.m. with full military honors. Please join the family at his home following the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Heartland Hospice in Scottie's name.
