Estel Hemmings Obituary


Estel Norman Hemmings EDENTON - Estel Norman Hemmings, 88, of the 1500 block of Fox Trail, died Oct. 1, 2008, at Chowan Hospital. Mr. Hemmings was born in Tazewell County, Virginia, the son of the late Rowena Elizabeth Yost and Ernest Edward Hemmings. He was married to Ruby Lee Hemmings of the residence. Mr. Hemmings was a retired electrician with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He also was a coal miner for 13 years in Virginia. He was a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church and the Sharing and Fellowship SS Class and was a Mason. Surviving Mr. Hemmings, other than his wife, are a daughter, Gay H. Beaman and husband Robert of Edenton; three sons, Kenneth Wayne Hemmings and wife Lou Ella of Portsmouth, Daniel Andrew Hemmings and wife Mary of Charlottesvile, Va., and Douglas Edward Hemmings of Portsmouth; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Hemmings was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. A celebration of Mr. Hemmings' life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Rocky Hock Baptist Church with Dr. James Horton officiating. Friends may visit with the family prior to the service at 10 a.m. at the church and other times at the home of Gay and Robert Beaman at 1108 Mohave Trail, Edenton. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens in Suffolk. Friends may sign the guest register by visiting www.evansfuneralsandcremations.com. Evans Funerals and Cremations of Edenton is serving the Hemmings family.
