James McGuire Obituary


James P. McGuire NORFOLK - James P. McGuire, 78, of the 1800 block of Arrowwood St., passed away Oct. 2, 2008, in Norfolk. A native of New York City, he was the son of the late Thomas and Caroline McGuire and the widower of Doris Sophia McGuire. He retired from the United States Navy as a chief gunners mate after 30 years of service from 1947-1977. He is survived by a daughter, Karen Means; a son, James P. McGuire Jr.; two brothers, John T. McGuire and Thomas McGuire and wife Patty; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Sowers and husband Herb; seven nieces and nephews; 10 great-nieces and -nephews; a close friend, Janice Morgan; and many other friends especially those at the Chief's Club at Little Creek Amphibious Base. A funeral will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel. The burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
