Bert Ferguson Obituary


Bert T. Ferguson PORTSMOUTH - Bert Thomas Ferguson, 79, of Early Drive, passed away Oct. 2, 2008, in his residence surrounded by his family. A native of St. Cloud, Minn., he was a retired senior chief, electronics technician with the U.S. Navy after 22 years, retired from civil service in 1983 and thereafter worked as a civil defense contractor until 1995. He was an active member of Holy Communion Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady Baugh and Christine Werdell Ferguson. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Bobra White Lamb Ferguson; three daughters, Michaela Heiman and husband Larry of Santa Rosa, Calif., Charlene Jerlin and husband Gary of Suffolk and Nanci Thier and husband David of Austin, Texas; a son, Charles Lamb Ferguson and wife Karen of Virginia Beach; five sisters; two brothers; three granddaughters and three grandsons. A graveside service with Navy honors will be held at 11 a.m. today in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery by the Rev. Stephen McGinnis. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in Holy Communion Lutheran Church, 6220 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth. The family asks that flowers be omitted and memorial donations be made to the Portsmouth Humane Society.
