Tonye Babb Obituary


Tonye Gene Babb Sr. CHESAPEAKE - Tonye Gene Babb Sr., 61, of the 600 block of Norcova Drive, went to be with the Lord Oct. 10, 2008, in Norfolk. A native of Concord, N.C., he was the son of Grace Lee McCarver Babb and the late Cline James Babb. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps' Force Reconnaissance, serving a tour of duty in Viet Nam, and worked as a cable technician with Verizon for 29 years. An active member of South Norfolk Congregational Christian Church, he was a volunteer scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with his family and friends. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife of 35 years, Audrey Babb; three sons, Tonye G. Babb Jr., Kristopher A. Babb, and Jason A. Babb and his wife Mellisa, all of Chesapeake; a granddaughter, Reagan Babb; and a sister, Susie Bamberg of Kannapolis, N.C. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Babb. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in South Norfolk Congregational Christian Church, 1030 Jackson Ave., Chesapeake, with the Rev. Amos Eby officiating. Interment will take place at 2 p.m. in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the residence at all other times.
