William Latham

William E. Latham PORTSMOUTH - William Edward Latham, 81, formerly of Portsmouth, died Oct. 9, 2008, in Wellington Nursing Center in Knightdale, N.C. He was born Oct. 18, 1927, to the late Elmer Agustus and Bonnie Dixon Latham of Washington, N.C. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Naomi Mary Howard Latham. He is survived by his daughters, Patricia L. Coman and husband James of Raleigh, Karen Vastardis of Virginia Beach and Bonnie L. Marston and husband Fred of Manassas, Va.; five grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He was a cabinetmaker, but with an artistic ability to express his love through his wood creations. He found great joy through music which he shared with all those around him through the songs he sang. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution be made to either Parkview Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 3201 Western Branch Blvd., Chesapeake, VA 23321 or Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge, 509 George Washington Hwy. N., Chesapeake, VA 23323-2009, both of which he attended and was a longtime member. A memorial service will be held in Parkview Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Oct. 25, 2008, at 11 a.m. Internment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Portsmouth.
