Mary Ditto Obituary

Mary P. Ditto VIRGINIA BEACH - Mary Woodrow Phillips Ditto was born July 7, 1915, at home in the "brick house" in Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Mary left us for her heavenly residence Oct. 13, 2008. She was named after President Woodrow Wilson. She was captain of her girls high school basketball team. She excelled in high school and had a vast vocabulary which challenged her children and grandchildren. Mary married Carl Ditto, also of Berkeley Springs. She was a devoted Navy wife for more than 32 years. She leaves behind her son, Anthony Ditteaux and his wife Carroll Ditteaux; and daughter, Jacqueline Ditto Murray and her husband the Rev. Vernon Murray. She has seven grandchildren, Tony Ditteaux, Mark Ditteaux, Marybeth Thompson, Jane Walker, Ross Harvey, J.R. Harvey; and five stepgrandchildren, Andrew Mosher, Jessica Murray, Rachel Turner, Timothy Murray and Joel Murray. She was thrilled with her seven young great-grandchildren, six in California and one in Virginia Beach. Mary was an athlete during her life, enjoying basketball, tennis, golf, swimming and the mental exercise of bridge. She was a kind and loving mother with a fun sense of humor. Mary was among the early congregants of All Saints Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach. A memorial service will be conducted there Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Stan Sawyer, celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to All Saints Episcopal Church, 1969 Woodside Lane, Virginia Beach , VA 23454 or to the Boys Home, 306 Boys Home Road, Covington, VA 24426. Aunt Mary, you are MY favorite and you always will be. I can see you standing there with your hat on and your finger up in the air and your leg sota bend and with that goof smirk on your face. That's what I see when I think of you. But I will always have that one thing to make me smile when I think of you. You are with my Dad and the rest of the Phillips so I know you will be alright. Give my Dad a big hug for me and one day we will all be together. I will miss you Aunt Mary.
