Delores Gay Obituary

Delores M. Gay NORFOLK - Delores M. Gay, born Sept. 25, 1925, a beloved wife, mother and friend, passed Oct. 17, 2008, to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, awaited by her loving husband, Harold Ben Gay Sr. She leaves behind to honor her memory and life: sons, Harold Ben Gay Jr., Daniel Frederick Gay, James J. Gay, Thomas A. Gay; daughters, Mary Lynn Keeble, Kathy Ann Warren, Susan Marie Gay; only grandson, Jason Arthur Gay; only granddaughter, Kim Ann Gay; great-grandsons, Brandon and Braxton; son-in-law, Brian Keeble; daughters-in-law, Janet Gay and Louise Gay; and too many friends to list. She and her husband, Harold Sr., pioneered the transportation of mentally handicapped children of Norfolk, starting in the late 1950s. Later, as her own son Daniel grew, they instituted the transportation of Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Chesapeake mentally handicapped adults to a workshop now known as the Louise W. Eggleston Center, believing in every child's and adult's right to love and security. Later in her life she worked at Ryan Academy of Norfolk, to be involved in her grandson Jason's schooling, managing the cafeteria, volunteering at special events, and tirelessly loving and mothering every student and teacher she met. She loved God and His Son, Jesus Christ, with all her heart and life and taught that love to her sons and daughters. She was a fun Mom and great lady and she will be missed dearly and deeply. Services will be held Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, with Pastor David Riley officiating. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
