Andrew Melson Obituary


Andrew B. Melson Jr. NORTH BETHESDA, Md. - Andrew Broadus Melson Jr., 98, a native of Machipongo, Va., Eastern Shore of Virginia, died Oct. 7, 2008. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Horton Melson. After completing high school, he attended The College of William and Mary and was a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. He began his career with Millhiser Bag Company Inc., Richmond, as a territorial sales representative. He retired from the district government, Washington, D.C. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Kensington, Md. Survivors include daughter, Ruth Horton Melson, North Bethesda, Md.; son, Andrew B. Melson III, Hot Springs, Ark.; granddaughter, Sharon Storm, Abington, Md.; two grandsons, Mark Melson, Salisbury, Md.; William Melson, Naperville, Ill.; four great-grandchildren, Allison and Natalie Storm, Olivia Melson and Zachary Zimberg; two nieces and eight nephews. Mr. Melson was buried beside his wife at Evergreen Burial Park, Roanoke, Va., preceded by a graveside service Oct. 14. The Rev. Arthur Grant, Greene Memorial United Methodist Church, Roanoke, officiated. Arrangements were made by DeVol Funeral Home, Washington, D.C. Memorial contributions may be made to Johnson's United Methodist Church, in care of Mrs. Claudia Yearick, 12082 Blue Teal Lane, Machipongo, VA 23405.
