Survivors include his wife, Kathyrn "Kate"; daughters, Ann H. Dunlap (Charles), Linda Hufton-Guha (Sanjib), Deborah "Dody" Doughty (Mike); his grandchildren, Randa Cain, Todd Dunlap (Wynne), John Angelson (Christie), Christina Angelson, Nick Henderson (friend Jennifer), Chris Henderson (friend Dana), and Joshua Henderson; his great-grandchildren, Isaac and Joshua Cain, Blaire and Brook Coombs, Brittany and Paul Angelson. He was very proud of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lula Hufton; his brother and sister-in-law, Elbert and Sadie Hufton; and his brother-in-law, Edward Thurmond. He is survived by his sister, Doris Thurmond; brother, James; and longtime friend, Bill Cahoon. Lonnie was born Oct. 21, 1918, in Creswell, N.C. Two of the most important dates in Lonnie's life were Sept. 15, 1940, when he married Kate in Norfolk and Aug. 14, 1954, when he dedicated his life to his God, Jehovah, in Emporia, Va. He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses for 54 years. He retired from NAS Norfolk in 1970. He also retired from his own company, Hufton's Job Printing, in 1978, but he never retired from his work as an evangelizer, the work he loved most. He loved to talk to people about the hope he learned from God's Word. He would let them know that soon there would be no more growing old, no more sickness or death (Rev. 21:3,4). He had faith in Jehovah God and the promise that if he fell asleep in death, he would be resurrected to a paradise earth (John 5: 28,29). He spent many years as an amateur radio ham operator. He was known by his call letters, K4EHO. Each morning he would talk about God's Word with fellow ham operators around the world. He will be missed by a worldwide brotherhood. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday in Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, 645 Mayflower Road, Norfolk, VA 23508. Burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
