Violet Smith Obituary


Violet T. Smith NORFOLK - Violet T. Smith, 91, formerly of Nottaway St., went to be with the Lord Oct. 17, 2008. She was born in Waynesboro, Va., on April 22, 1917, to the late Albert and Mary Dooms. Violet, affectionately known as "Nanny," was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She had a wealth of knowledge and many relied upon her to give advice. Nanny was predeceased by her loving husband of nearly 50 years, Garland G. Smith and a son, Wayne Smith. Left to cherish her memory are her son, James G. Smith of Norfolk; five grandchildren, J. Keith Smith and wife Barbara of North Carolina, Mary Smith Mondul and husband Michael of Danville, Melissa Dupey and husband Noggin of North Carolina, Kevin Smith of Gloucester, and Elizabeth Rivera and husband Daniel of Newport News; and seven great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA or the Alzheimer's Association. Smith & Williams Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. You may offer condolences at www.mem.com.
