Claude Etheridge Obituary


Claude Etheridge Jr. KNOTTS ISLAND - Claude L. Etheridge Jr., 89, passed away Oct. 19, 2008 in his home. A native of Norfolk, he was the son of the late Florence Gray, Claude L. Etheridge Sr. and stepmother Louise Etheridge. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He served in the European Theater during which time he received a Purple Heart. He also served as a bugler at Arlington National Cemetery. He retired from Gibson Equipment Co. after many years of service. Claude enjoyed fishing and was an avid hunter and preferred the simple life. He was known for his sense of humor and quick wit. He could carry on a fun conversation. Claude was loved very much and will be missed very much by his family and friends. He is survived by his brother, Martin M. and wife Bessie P. Etheridge; a nephew, Daniel M. and wife Diana K. Etheridge; niece, Ellen W. Bender and husband Howard D. Bender; and a longtime companion, Irma Bailey.
