Anita Muriel McBride SUFFOLK - Anita Muriel McBride, 81, died Oct. 19, 2008. She was born in Richmond, and moved with her parents and siblings from Richmond to Suffolk in 1933. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin Maurice McBride Sr. and Arline Stanley McBride; her sister and brother-in-law, Ravis M. Carter and W. Randolph Carter Sr.; and her brother and sister-in-law, Alvin M. McBride Jr. and Betty M. McBride. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Frances M. Davis and Arthur T. Davis and an aunt, Irma S. Mathews of Aylett, Va. She is also survived by one niece and six nephews, W. Randolph Carter Jr. and wife Luci of Suffolk, Nancy C. Hammond and husband Peter of Williamsburg, Alvin M. McBride III and wife Becky of Suffolk, W. Bennett McBride and wife Julie of Zuni, Va., Steven M. Davis of Old Pine Key, Fla., John A. Davis and wife Georgia Carolyn of Raleigh, N.C., and Christopher T. Davis of Norfolk. She was also great-aunt to Carter Hammond and wife Lisa of Newark, N.J., Caroline Hammond of Washington, D.C., Bridget, Maci and Ian McBride, all of Suffolk, Alex and Diana McBride of Zuni and Moyer M. Davis of Raleigh. Miss McBride was a 1945 graduate of Suffolk High School and a 1949 graduate of Farmville State Teacher College (Longwood University). She received her master's degree in education from The College of William and Mary in 1967. She retired from the Franklin school system on July 1, 1991, after over 32 years of teaching. She was a master gardener and a member of the Suffolk Woman's Club. She was a member of the West End Baptist Church and the Alpha Omega Sunday School Class. A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Holly Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. T. Floyd Irby Jr. The family will receive friends in the R. W. Baker & Co.
