Abraham Baum Obituary


Abraham Baum NORFOLK - Abraham Baum, 83, a Holocaust survivor, passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 21, 2008 with his family by his side. He was born in Poland and resided on Brandon Avenue for 43 years. He retired in 1990 from what is now Hampton Roads Transit after 37 years of service. He was a lifetime member of ATU Union 1177. He was a member of Congregation Beth El. Abraham was predeceased by his twin sons, Gary Joseph and Larry Thomas. Survivors include a daughter, Rachel Ann Buns and her husband Phillip of Norfolk; a daughter, Julie Leah Miller and her husband Paul of Rochester, N.Y.; and two grandchildren, Joseph Paul Miller and Megan Elizabeth Miller of Rochester. Many thanks to his caregivers, Margie, Bernice and Georgie for their loving service and dedication as Abraham coped with the increasing challenges of Parkinson's. Thanks also Brenda and Romona from Personal Touch Hospice for their guidance and care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater Holocaust Commission or a charity of the donor's choice. A graveside service will be conducted by Rabbi Arthur Ruberg Friday at 11 a.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments are handling the arrangements.
