Alvin Knight

Alvin R. Knight PORTSMOUTH - The Rev. Alvin R. Knight, 67, of the 1100 block of N. Carrington Crescent, passed away Oct. 20, 2008 in Chesapeake. A native of Suffolk, he was the son of the late Soloman and Josephine Knight. He received his B.S. from Virginia State University in 1963, his M.S. from Howard University in 1970 and his Masters of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1998. He pastored Millneck Baptist Church in Como, N.C. He was the dean and president of the Baptist Sunday School and B. T. U. Congress of Virginia. He was in the National Christian Education Congress, was organizer of the The Black Male's Institute in Norfolk and belonged to the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board. He was a Boy Scouts of America leader and sat on the Business Education Advisory Committee. Pastor Knight is survived by his wife, Margaret B. Knight; three daughters, Sherita Parks and husband James of Chesapeake, Sabrina Thompson and husband Micahl of Chesapeake and Amy Diggins and husband Danny of Baltimore; five grandchildren, Quinton Monroe, Marquis Gibson, Brandon Gibson, Joshua Diggins and Victoria Diggins; two sisters, Betty Knight of Bronx, N.Y., and Barbara Knight of Suffolk and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in East End Baptist Church, 523 E. Washington St., Suffolk. The burial will be private.
