Alan White Obituary


Alan C. White CHESAPEAKE - Alan C. White, 48, died Oct. 21, 2008, in Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward B. Sr. and Delorest White and grandmother, Novella Harding. Educated in Chesapeake schools and a graduate of Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C., he was one of the first black Americans to win a distinguished math award. He is listed in the 1982 edition of Who's Who Among African-American Students. Following graduation, he worked for IBM in Durham, N.C., served in the Armed Forces, and lastly, Chesapeake Public School system. He is survived by his siblings, Edwina Langaster (Timothy), Edward B. White Jr., Darius White (Rhonda), Donna Burden (Earnest), Daphne Nickens, Emerson White (Lynnette), September Johnson (Reginald); uncles, Joseph and Frederick White; 12 nieces and nephews; eight grandnieces and nephews; and cousins. He is greatly missed. A memorial ceremony to celebrate his life will be held in Zion Worship Temple, 1002 Hazel Court, Chesapeake, on Monday, Oct. 27, at noon with Pastors Michael and Anita Holley officiating. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the National Kidney Foundation.
