Elsie Bailey McCaskill PORTSMOUTH - Elsie Bailey McCaskill, 98, formerly of Chesapeake, died Oct. 20, 2008 in Heritage Hall Healthcare & Rehab Center, Leesburg, Va. Born June 22, 1910 in Newsoms, Va., she was the daughter of the late Henry and Lillian Whitley Bailey. Elsie was predeceased in death by her husband of 49 years, Winfred C. McCaskill; one sister, Audrey Culpepper; five brothers, Irvin, Reuben, Ray, Garnet and Vallon Bailey. Left to cherish her memory is a daughter, Joan McCaskill Kemper of Leesburg; a sister, Effie Clement of Ivor, Va.; and a brother, Rollis Bailey and wife Elsie of Chesapeake; and many nieces and nephews. Elsie was a retired florist and former owner/operator of Bailey's Florist, family-owned since 1926, in Portsmouth. After retirement and moving to Leesburg, Elsie continued her love of flowers and joy they gave her at the former Leesburg Florist and in the flower section at Ben Franklin. She always said she never worked a day in her life, but was just enjoying her hobby instead. Elsie was a member of Loudoun Baptist Temple in Leesburg. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. today at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, 5201 Portsmouth Blvd, Portsmouth, VA 23701. A service will follow in the funeral home chapel with pastors John Kemper and Eugene Nichols officiating. Interment will be in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth.
