Edna Lassiter Obituary
Edna W. Lassiter VIRGINIA BEACH - Edna Wilcox Lassiter, 84, died Oct. 21, 2008, in Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News. Born in Suffolk and raised in Boykins, Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert Alexander Wilcox and Edna Gardner Wilcox and the widow of William James Lassiter Jr. Throughout her life, she was a faithful Christian, devoted beyond measure to her large family and dear friends, and a spirited volunteer. At First Baptist Church of Norfolk, she was a longtime member of her women's Bible study group, she served as president of the Woman's Club of South Norfolk, was a member of the Chesapeake Chapter of the DAR and a member of the Republican Woman's Club of Virginia Beach, where she also volunteered as a precinct captain. She laughed much, prayed daily, loved flowers and gardens, snowmen and teddy bears, adored her family and cherished her late husband. She is survived by her two daughters, Cathy Huckins of Williamsburg, Va., and Pamela Chambers (Darrell) of Greensboro, N.C.; her six grandchildren, Christine Franck of New York City, Scott Huckins of Seattle, Wash., Brian Huckins (Debbie) of Williamsburg, Jennifer Cooper (Justin) of Goring-by-Sea, England, April Eller (Kevin) of Greensboro, and Specialist 4th Class Matthew Chambers of Fort Richardson, Ark.; and her seven great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Connor Huckins of Williamsburg, Ashley and Caitlin Cooper of Goring-by-Sea and Aidan, Sadie and Isabelle Eller of Greensboro; and three of her four siblings, her much-loved sisters, Frances Forehand of Chesapeake and Margaret Wilroy (Jack) of Boykins and her brother Victor Grizzard (Edith) of Boykins. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church of Norfolk. The Rev. Dick Baker will officiate. The graveside service will follow at Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Francis Gay Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 1146 Rodgers St., Chesapeake. Memorial contributions may be made to her favorite charities, the First Baptist Church of Norfolk or the Republican National Committee.
