Geneva Battle Obituary


Geneva W. Battle CHESAPEAKE - Geneva W. Battle, 89, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center after a long illness. Mrs. Battle was born in Tarboro, N.C., on June 15, 1919, and was the daughter of the late David and Mary Etta Wright. She was predeceased by her husband, James Battle Sr.; son, James Battle Jr.; and sisters, Mary Parker, Martha Battle, Georgiana Wilson and Lois Young. From her union with Mr. John R. Tillery, she is survived by a son, Victor E. Tillery; daughter, Janice Renee Tillery-Lillard; daughter-in-law, Patsy Tillery; son-in-law, Neal Lillard; four grandchildren, Danielle Custodio, Ingrid Renee Battle, Janelle Shante Lillard and Aaron Thomas Lillard; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Maynor and Blanche Carter; and a host of nieces and nephews. The viewing will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. followed by a funeral at 2 p.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, with Bishop E.J. Lillard officiating. Special thanks to the staff at Sentara Nursing Center, Chesapeake and Chesapeake Regional Medical Center for their excellent care during her extended illness.
