Virginia Dowdy Obituary


Virginia D. Dowdy WINTON - Virginia Dilday Dowdy, 81, died Oct. 23, 2008, at Roanoke Chowan Hospital. She was born June 15, 1927, in Norfolk to the late Dallas Lee Dilday and Celestine Anna Brady Dilday. She was the wife of the late Harry Wright Dowdy. She graduated from Norview High School in Norfolk in 1945, was the wife of a Marine and traveled extensively around the world and settled in Winton. She was a loving mother and housewife. Left to cherish her memory are her children: a son, Michael Dowdy and his wife the Rev. Megan Dowdy of Atlanta; daughter, Mary Anne Dowdy Perry and her husband Ken of San Leandro, Calif.; a sister, Anita D. Bene; brother, Dallas E. Dilday, both of Norfolk; grandchildren, Erin Dowdy and Sara Perry; a nephew and a great-niece. A celebration of life service will be held at the graveside Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Cool Springs Baptist Church. The Rev. Megan Dowdy will officiate. The family will gather at the home, 202 North Main St., Winton. Memorials may be made to Winton Rescue Squad or Cool Springs Baptist Church. Garrett Funeral Home is serving the Dowdy family.
