Edward Perry Hand PORTSMOUTH - Edward Perry Hand, 81, of the 3000 block of Elliott Ave., passed away Oct. 24, 2008, in Portsmouth. A native of Tazewell County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Robert and Lillie Hand. He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service and also had worked security at the Navy Yard. He was an Army veteran of World War II and Korea, serving as a military policeman and was assigned to guard Adolph Eichmann at Nuremberg, Germany, during the War Trials at Nuremberg. He was a member of Broadmoor Church of Christ. He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Mary Webster Hand; three sisters, Gladys Rosalind of Grandy, N.C., Ethel Hand Kay of Portsmouth and Joann Smith of Grandy; and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends and neighbors. He was predeceased by his sisters, Ruth and Frances and his brothers, Frank, William and Larry. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
