Charles Nash Obituary


Charles P. Nash III CHARLOTTESVILLE - Charles Patterson Nash III, 84, passed away Oct. 21, 2008, in Richmond. Born Dec. 14, 1923, in Norfolk, he was predeceased by his parents, Lydia Taylor Nash and Charles Patterson Nash Jr., as well as by his sister, Mary Mann Nash Arrington. He is survived by his sister, Anne Nash Risher and her husband John C. Risher of Lynchburg, Va. Uncle Charles' nieces and nephews include Alice Risher Painter of Los Alamos, N.M., Elisabeth Arrington Cox of Richmond, Anne Taylor Arrington of Missoula, Mont., Charles B. Arrington Jr. of Bay City, Mich., and Robert Nash Arrington of Lawrenceville, Ga. Mr. Nash was a lifelong learner and an avid Civil War buff. He served his country as an Army Air Force corpsman in World War II and was decorated for his part in The Battle of the Bulge. He worked as a commercial artist in Richmond and Washington, D.C., after attending the University of Virginia and VCU. He later returned to the family home on Hilltop Road to care for his aging parents. Mr. Nash was a competitive tennis player and won several state awards into his 60s. A graveside service with military honors will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at The University of Virginia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please support the charity of your choice.
