Ethel Strickland Obituary


Ethel C. Strickland CHESAPEAKE - Ethel C. Strickland, 89, formerly of the 1100 block of Maryview Ave., went to be with the Lord Oct. 26, 2008. A native of White Plains, Va., she was the daughter of the late Willard T. and Lula Rainey Clary and the wife of the late Clifton N. "Tip" Strickland Jr. She worked for several years as a nurse and was a voting registrar. She was a member of Raleigh Heights Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and the W.M.U. She is survived by her two sons, Clifton N. Strickland III of Virginia Beach and Daniel L. Strickland and his wife Sandra of Chesapeake; two grandchildren, Tammy Sue Tarabola, her husband Dan and their children, Sophia, Isabella and Vincent, all of Edgewater, N.J., and Damon L. Strickland, his wife, Ashley and their children, Kaelin and Lain, all of Blacksburg, Va.; two sisters, Dorothy Hawkins and her husband Edward of White Plains and Lorene Hill of Elizabethtown, N.C.; a brother, Rawleigh Clary and his wife Alva of Virginia Beach; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Raleigh Heights Baptist Church, 1000 Crowell Ave., Chesapeake, with the Rev. James Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Palliative Care Program, c/o Hampton Veterans' Hospital, 100 Emancipation Drive, Hospice Unit Building No. 114, Hampton, VA 23667.
