George R. Little Jr. ELIZABETH CITY - George Roscoe Little Jr., 96, died at home Oct. 27, 2008, of natural causes. George Little was born Jan. 22, 1912, to George Roscoe Little and Eva Pailin Little. He was a lifelong resident of Elizabeth City and retired as owner/president of G.R. Little Insurance Agency. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1934, Mr. Little went on to be a life member of the Alumni Associates and a UNC Wilson Library Fellow. He was a devoted Carolina Tarheel and attended every home football game possible until his health began to fade in recent years. He also served as advisor to many organizations throughout the UNC system including the UNC Chapel Hill Board of Trustees and Board of Visitors, the UNC Chapel Hill Educational Foundation Board of Directors and the UNC Wilmington Board of Trustees, where he was a member as well as the chair. As a World War II veteran, he enjoyed giving back to his community through civic organizations such as the Elizabeth City Rotary (member/president), the Elizabeth City Chamber of Commerce (member/president), and the Elizabeth City Boys Club (member/president). He was a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church where he could be seen every Sunday and where he served as both a vestryman and senior warden. He was preceded in death by his sons, George Roscoe Little III and Lenyer McCotter Little; daughter-in-law, Betty Jean Houtz Sanders Little; granddaughter, Lenyer Houtz Little; and his sister, Helen Little Wood; and brother-in-law, Lucky Wood. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Love McCotter Little; daughter, Joyce Little Wilkins and her husband Keith Graham Wilkins; daughter-in-law, Gray Brantley Little; five grandchildren, George Roscoe Little IV and wife Bess Harrell Little, Katharine Gray Little, Caroline Wilkins Ritchie and husband Eric Ritchie, George McCotter Wilkins and wife Tara Wilkins and Esther Silva Wilkins; two great-granddaughters, Carmen Love and Isabella Ritchie; a niece, Eva Carolina Bright and her husband Roger Bright; and dear family friends, Alvin and Peggy McPherson. A burial service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Christ Episcopal Church. The family will receive family and friends today at 2127 Rivershore Road, Elizabeth City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Little's name to the Albemarle Hospice, 311 Cedar St., Elizabeth City, NC 27909 or to the Organ Fund at Christ Episcopal Church, 220 McMorrine St., Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
