Paul A. Perdue Sr. CHESAPEAKE - Paul Archie Perdue Sr., 92, formerly of West Bugle Drive, departed this life for his heavenly home Oct. 28, 2008, to be reunited with his wife of 71 years, Margaret Perdue, who predeceased him less than a month ago. He was also predeceased by his parents, Archie and Dovie Perdue and a son, Charles Perdue. Born in North Carolina, he retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and was a devoted member and deacon of Alliance Church. Paul was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Left to cherish his memory are four children, Carol Hawkins (Dave) of Asheboro, N.C., Kay Mixon (Tommy) of Chesapeake, Paul A. Perdue Jr. of Portsmouth and Linda Kester (Larry) of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rachel Robertson of Kernersville, N.C. Paul served as chaplain and treasurer of the Walter Gardner Coffee Club and was an active member of NARFE and the NNSY Golf Association. He was a true sportsman who enjoyed playing softball for the church team, hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening and spending time outside. He never met a stranger and faithfully visited shut-ins and hospital patients. His fun-loving, jokester nature and "the man with candy in his pocket" will be remembered by all those who knew him. A celebration of life service will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. by Pastor Palmer Zerbe in Alliance Church, 5809 Portsmouth Blvd. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.
