Dorothea Finch Obituary


Dorothea L. Finch SUFFOLK - Dorothea Loretta Finch, 71, passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at her home after a courageous battle with lymphoma. Born March 7, 1937 in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Rose Gillen O'Rourke and Joseph O'Rourke. She was a talented portrait artist and a member of the Church of St. Therese. Dot is survived by her loving family, including her husband of over 52 years, Herbert J. Finch; two sons, Herbert Joseph Finch of Smithfield and Robert Paul Finch and wife Carole of Williamsburg; three daughters, Linda Marie Reiske and husband William of Chesapeake, Debra Lynn Finch of Virginia Beach, Elizabeth Rose Dean and husband James of Suffolk; seven grandchildren, Jessica and Kristina Finch, Justin, Eric, and Madison Reiske, Savannah Rose and Ethan Dean; and two brothers, Joseph O'Rourke and wife Cora of Kansas, Robert O'Rourke and wife Linda of Arizona. A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Church of St. Therese, 4137 Portsmouth Blvd., Chesapeake, by the Rev. Robert L. Cummins and the Rev. Raymond Finch, followed by a reception at the church. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m at Baker-Foster Funeral Home. Graveside committal will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milner's Road, Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 27 Queens Way, Suite 301, Hampton, VA 23669. Arrangements are under the care of Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennett's Creek Chapel, 5685 Lee Farm Lane, Suffolk. Condolences may be registered at www.rwbakerfh.com.
