Horace Baskette Obituary


Horace J. Baskette Sr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Horace Julian Baskette Sr. passed away Oct. 28, 2008, at his residence. He was born in the Ocean View section of Norfolk, and was a lifelong resident of Virginia Beach. He grew up in Ocean View where he was a familiar regular amongst the Ocean View Golf Course crowd, and was a City of Norfolk Golf Champion as a teenager. Horace enlisted and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, later attending the Norfolk Division of William & Mary (ODU) while playing for their golf team. His working years were spent in the automotive and real estate business, and lastly with the U.S. Naval Sealift Command. Horace was a member of King's Grant Baptist Church. Horace is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Dot); sons, Horace J. Baskette Jr. of Burke, Va., and Craig D. Baskette; daughters, Brenda Roane of Richmond, Va. and Jan Kane of Eagan, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Pat; sons-in-law, A.C. and Bill; and grandchildren, Lindsey, Timothy, Bradford, Natalie, Anne Carey, Samantha and Max. Also surviving is a sister, Marguerite of Yonkers, N.Y., and a brother, Howard of Norfolk. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Hugh and Curtis Baskette. His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Hollomon-Brown, Lynnhaven Chapel, with a funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
