Rosa Lawrence Obituary


Rosa Mae Lawrence VIRGINIA BEACH - Rosa Mae Shaw Lawrence, 91, passed away Oct. 26, 2008. She was born May 7, 1917 in Wilson County, North Carolina, to the late Grocer and Nettie Peacock Shaw. She was predeceased by her husband, Trustee Thomas Cecil Lawrence Sr. Rosa lived in the West Munden section of Chesapeake for over 45 years. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Berkley. She was one of the founders for Workers for Christ Ministry, vice president of the Pastor's Aid for 13 years, former member of the Female Usher Board, Cathedral Choir, Church School and Bible Study before her husband became incapacitated. She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Elaine McDaniel (Roland) of Chesapeake, Eleanor Wyche of Baltimore and Cecilia Brown (Tyrone) of Chesapeake; a son, Thomas Lawrence Jr. (LaBarbara) of Chesapeake; eight grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; one brother, Grover Shaw Sr. (Odessa) of Kenly, N.C.; three sisters, Ruth Bynum of Lucama, N.C., Naomi Hinnant (Ezekiel) of Portsmouth and Esther Howell of Wilson, N.C.; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at noon Friday in Mount Zion Baptist Church, Berkley, 900 Middlesex St. Dr. Charles Hart will officiate. Interment will be at Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Metropolitan Funeral Service, Berkley Ave. Chapel. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.metropolitanfuneralservice.com.
