Lydia Wright Obituary


Lydia Gladys Wright VIRGINIA BEACH - Lydia Gladys Wright, 92, died Oct. 27, 2008, at home with her family. Lydia was born Sept. 27, 1916, in Ducktown, Tenn. She was the daughter of the late Alfred Daniel and Birdie Nations Swanson. Lydia graduated from Burie College as a registered nurse. She began her career as a private duty nurse and later as a public health nurse at the Princess Anne Health Department retiring in 1978. She was a compassionate and caring nurse. Lydia loved nature and enjoyed gardening as was reflected in her beautiful flower beds. She was an avid reader and also has a great love of dogs. Lydia had a sense of humor. When she told a joke, there was always a witty delivery. She was a loving and giving mother and grandmother. Lydia was a member of the Bayside Presbyterian Church. In years past, she volunteered in the church's office and was a member of the women's circle. Lydia was predeceased by a sister, Mickie Huffsteler as well as her brothers, Stanley Swanson and Robert Swanson. Lydia is survived by her husband of 68 years, Kirby Haywood Wright; sister, Pamela (George) Flynn of Iron Station, N.C.; sister- in-law, Pat Swanson wife of the late Robert of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two children, Jackson Wright of Virginia Beach and Juanita (Steve) Dombkowski of Stevensville, Md.; two granddaughters, Laura (Robert) Dean of Wye Mills, Md., and Lydia (Pete) Weed of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; two grandsons, Daniel (Angie) Wright of Windsor, Va., and David (Michelle) Hill of Glen Burnie, Md.; four stepgrandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and her pet dog, Julie. Special thanks to the Rev. Richard Keever, the Rev. Dr. Harry Daniel, and Assistant Pastor Dan Dickerson for their prayers and visitations. The family also appreciated the dedicated staff of Sentara Hospice and the volunteers for all their gracious acts of assistance. The family wants to thank your relatives and friends for their loving support. The family will be receiving guest from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach. A private family entombment will be conducted by the Rev. Richard Keever at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens prior to the service. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Bayside Presbyterian Church, 1400 Ewell Road, Virginia Beach, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Harry Daniel. The family will receive friends and relatives at the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. The family requests that donations be made to either Bayside Presbyterian Church or to the hospice Sentara Home Care Services, 535 Independence Pkwy., Suite 200, Chesapeake, VA 23320.
