Thomas W. Hauser CHESAPEAKE - Thomas W. Hauser, better known as Tim, died in Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center Oct. 27, 2008. Tim was born March 13, 1913, in North Carolina and was educated in Virginia. He completed commercial law and aircraft instrumentation at the Norfolk Division of The College of William and Mary. In addition, he completed bookkeeping, accounting and aeronautical engineering courses at the Armed Forces Institute and an electrical welding course at the Newport News Shipyard Apprentice School. He worked as a welder until being called to active duty in the Naval Reserve. During his naval career, he was assigned as the transportation officer in the Overhaul and Repair Department at the Naval Air Station in Norfolk. He was later transferred to and helped commission the USS Ticonderoga. He served aboard the ship during the war and had the honor of being present at The Surrender. He was awarded the Navy Bronze Star for heroic action during an attack on the ship by Japanese aircraft. After the war, he served as ship's security officer while transporting troops home from the Pacific Arena. He was later transferred back to the Naval Air Station in Norfolk as the transportation officer at the Overhaul and Repair facility. He retired from all active service in 1974. He loved to play golf and during his playing career, he had eight holes-in-one and a number of sub-par rounds. He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Lindsey-Hauser; a daughter, Carol Ann Hauser of Rocklin, Calif., whose mother Kathleen V. Hauser died in 1972; and a brother, Arthur Lee Hauser of Richmond, Va. Also surviving him are his wife's children, Martha Lindsey-Glenn and her husband Kevin Glenn, Beth Lindsey and Dan Lindsey and her granddaughter, Lindsey Ward Kennedy and family. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, 524 Cedar Road.
