James Featherstone Jr. PORTSMOUTH - James "Stoney" Featherstone Jr., 73, of the 700 block of Bold St., died Oct. 25, 2008, at home. He was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., and retired from the U.S. Navy in 1972 after 20 years of service and also from the Norfolk Naval Supply Center in 1995 with more than 20 years of service. In his later years, he began a diligent and regular Bible study with Jehovah's Witnesses and began putting faith in the grand promises of the Bible. Prior to his death, he expressed the desire to serve Jehovah God; he had begun conforming his life to do so. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Christine Featherstone of Portsmouth; two daughters, Linda Mclin of Chesapeake and Debbie Scott (Michael) of Portsmouth; one son, Anthony James Featherstone (Pat) of Chesapeake; four sisters, Delores Featherstone, Jeanette Hughley, Charlotte Anderson (Roy), all of Chattanooga, Fannie Cartwright of Detroit; three brothers, Sterling (Rosetta), Stanley (Robbie) and Nathaniel, all of Chattanooga; two grandchildren, Tamika Featherstone of Portsmouth and Christine A. Featherstone (Jason) of Raeford, N.C.; one great-grandchild, Jalaya Brown of Raeford; special family and friends, Betty Tompkins, Andre' Gorum, Travis Benjamin, Sharon Sanders and Deborah Forney of Detroit; and a host of many other loving nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Geneva (Madear) Atkinson; father, James Featherstone Sr.; three sisters, Clarice (Nunnie) Young, Dora Brown, infant Claudette; and one brother, Walter "Spookie" Featherstone, all formerly of Chattanooga. A funeral was held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 4050 Elliott Ave., Portsmouth. Brother Jemmott Harris spoke at the service. Burial was held in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. A viewing was held at noon Tuesday in Corprew Funeral Home with the family in the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude and deep appreciation for all who have helped them through this difficult time.
