Mary Shanks Obituary


Mary B. Shanks PORTSMOUTH - Mary Bull Shanks, 88, formerly of Portsmouth, died Oct. 29, 2008, in Newport News. Mrs. Shanks, a native of Greenville, S.C., was the widow of Richard T. Shanks Jr. and the daughter of the late William Thomas and Lillian Hampton Bull. She was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as an accounts payable clerk and she was a member of the Richard Dale Woman's Club and Trinity Episcopal Church in Portsmouth. Survivors include her son, Thomas L. Shanks and wife Barbara of Newport News, their daughter, Karen S. Lambert and her daughter Kaitlyn Elise Lambert of Richmond; their son, Gregory T. Shanks and his wife Helen Marie and their children, Christopher Scott Zenyuk, Erin Nicole Shanks and Allison Leigh Shanks, all of Hampton; a daughter, Carol Ann Gibbs, her children James A. Sitzler and Mary Elizabeth Sitzler, all of Richmond. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today in Trinity Episcopal Church, 500 Court St., Portsmouth, by the Rev. Sue Crommelin. Burial will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, handling arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Multiple Sclerosis, Hampton Roads Chapter, 405 S. Parliament Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
