Jean Broadnax Obituary


Jean L. Broadnax NORFOLK - Jean L. "Mima" Broadnax, 60, of the 1400 block of E. Tanners Creek Drive, passed away Oct. 30, 2008, at her residence. She was born May 29, 1948, in Norfolk to the late Jean B. and Raleigh Lewis Sr. She was a 1966 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and a 1970 graduate of Hampton University. Jean retired in 2003 from the U.S. Postal Service where she was a U.S. Postal Clerk serving 32 years. She was a member of Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church, Norfolk. She was predeceased by her twin sister, Joan L. Johnson. She is survived by two daughters, Monica and Kimberly Broadnax; one son, Kendall Broadnax; one sister, Rosalyn L. Jackson; one brother, Raleigh Lewis Jr.; grandmother, Florence B. Bennett; six grandchildren, Ashley Muhammad (Rahmaan), Pia, Taylor, Kiara, Deyanna and Shaniya; one great-grandchild, Amyah; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Metropolitan Funeral Service, 7246 Granby St. The Rev. Veronica Thomas will officiate. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Norfolk. Family and friends will assemble at 1461 E. Tanners Creek Drive one hour prior to service for procession to the chapel. A viewing will be held from 11 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
