Emma Serman Obituary


Emma L. Serman SALISBURY, Md. - Emma L. Serman, 74, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at her home in Salisbury. She was born June 3, 1934, in Salisbury, a daughter of the late Samuel Whitney Day III and Edna (Insley) Day. She was a proud homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to many. Emma was an active member of the Laurel Church of Christ and an avid Bible reader. She loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lester Calvin Serman; five children, Lester Calvin Serman Jr. and his wife Barbara Ann of Virginia Beach, Carol Marie Brown of Sharptown, Md., Samuel Clayton Serman and his wife Christine Louise, William Lee Serman and his wife Janice, both of Virginia Beach and Jennie Lou Grubbs of Sharptown, Md.; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Samuel Whitney Day IV and his wife Virginia Lee of Salisbury and George Thomas Day and his wife Diane of Parsonsburg. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A family graveside service was held Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at Springhill Memory Gardens near Hebron. Wayne Mathis officiated. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to: Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802. Funeral arrangements were handled by Short Funeral Home of Delmar.
