Fred Thornton Obituary


Fred D. Thornton Jr. PORTSMOUTH - Retired U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Fred D. Thornton Jr., 72, of the 1500 block of Crystal Lake Drive, passed away Nov. 2, 2008. Born in Chicago to the late Fred Sr. and Agnes Thornton, he retired from the U.S. Navy and as CEO of Orc Inc. in Chesapeake. Survivors include his devoted wife, Ruth; one daughter; three sons; three sisters; one brother; and a host of other relatives and friends. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Third Baptist Church, 461 Godwin St., Portsmouth. Pastor Joe B. Fleming will officiate. Interment will be in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. Viewing will be Thursday at Metropolitan Funeral Service, Berkley Ave. Chapel, and 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
