Carl Vaughan Obituary


C. C. Vaughan PORTSMOUTH - Carl C. "C.C." Vaughan, 87, of the 500 block of Rockbridge Road, went to be with his Lord and Savior Nov. 3, 2008. He was born June 23, 1921, in Jackson, N.C. He was raised in Portsmouth and worked at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard from age 17 until retirement. He served in the U.S. Marine Air Corps as a Navigator-Bombardier in the Pacific during World War II, a time he always remembered with pride. He was predeceased by his first wife, Leigh and his son, Carl C. Vaughan III. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Grimes Vaughan; his daughter and son-in-law, Michael and Sharon Hagan of Seattle; his stepdaughter, Jinnette Grimes of Syracuse; stepson and daughter-in-law, Jack and Stacy Grimes of Suffolk; granddaughters, Rebecca Vaughan and Rachael Vaughan; stepgrandchildren, Jennifer Grimes, Jackson Grimes and Sydney Grimes; two great-granddaughters; his sister, Betty V. Hitchings of Chesapeake; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a member of Naval Masonic Lodge and an active member of Pinecrest Baptist Church serving as a deacon for many years. Those who knew him will recall his unfailing fortitude and humor in serving his God, family and country. The funeral will be at Pinecrest Baptist Church Friday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Tom Potter. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Pinecrest Baptist Church. www.SturtevantFuneralHome.com.
