Ethel Dunbar Obituary


Ethel Dunbar PORTSMOUTH - Ethel Dunbar, 83, went to be with the Lord Oct. 30, 2008. Ethel was born in Columbia, N.C., Feb. 11, 1925. Her family later moved to Portsmouth. She was the daughter of the late William Hardy Dunbar and Ellen Dunbar. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert Harris; her brothers, Joseph Dunbar and Charles Dunbar; her sisters, Bernice Staton, Palestine Fitzgerald, Edna Bowers; her son, Albert Harris Jr.; and a granddaughter, Kennette Harris. Ethel was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She leaves to cherish her memory two brothers, James Dunbar and wife Dorothy Dunbar of Portsmouth and Hardy Dunbar Jr. of Florida, and her sister, Deloris Mayo of Chesapeake. She also leaves her beloved and faithful children, Ethel Richard of Nevada, Majoyce Watson, Linda Harris, Brenda Harris, Ricky Harris and his wife Avis, all of Portsmouth, James Douglas Harris of Chattanooga, Tenn., Frederick Harris of Orlando, Fla.; and special friend, Myra Jones of Chattanooga. Ethel had 26 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves a host of other friends and relatives to remember her. The family will receive friends at Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth Chapel, today from 7 to 8 p.m. A tribute and celebration of the life of this humble servant of God will be held Friday in St. John Baptist Church, 2200 Effingham St., Portsmouth. Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park Cemetery, 1101 Campostella Road, Chesapeake. Family and friends will assemble at the family residence one hour prior to the service for the procession to the church.
