Alan Murray Obituary


Alan A. Murray VIRGINIA BEACH - Retired U.S. Navy Cmdr. Alan A. Murray, 68, died at his home in Virginia Beach following a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Claudia Aycock Murray of Virginia Beach as well as two daughters, Kirstin Caldwell, her husband Robert, their son Austin Buie and daughter Cassandra Shannon Langlotz, her husband Ron, their children Ryan, Emma and Noah of Bel Air, Md.; three stepchildren, Angela Messner, her husband Joseph, their children Kat and Zack of Queen Creek, Ariz., Suzannah Kendall James, and her children Josh and Jada of Richmond and Levin Smith James IV (Chuck) of Virginia Beach. Alan was born in Indianapolis, Ind., to the late William and Lurena Pearl (Zimmerman) Murray. He was educated in the public school system, attended Perdue Butler University and received his master's degree from Salve Regina in Newport, R.I. After retirement from the Navy, he was a government contractor, teaching the Aegis System. He volunteered at the Judeo Christian Outreach Center and Homeless Shelter. He was a member of Kempsville Church of God in Virginia Beach. His services will be held there Sunday at 3 p.m. with Military honors. The Rev. Mark Carey will be officiating. Interment will follow at a later date. The family requests, that in lieu of flowers, please do something thoughtful and kind for someone who least expects it. Remember that "if you can do some good today, do it now for we may not pass this way again!" Final arrangements entrusted to Salyer Funeral Home Inc. in Chincoteague Island, Va.
