Hazel Davis Obituary


Hazel D. Davis VIRGINIA BEACH - Hazel Dickinson Bates Davis, 79, of the 5900 block of Cold Harbor Court, passed away on Nov. 7, 2008. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Frederick and Hazel Dickinson, Mrs. Davis was retired from civil service as a secretary for the Veterans Administration. She was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Mark and the Daughters of the American Revolution, Lynnhaven Parish. She was the widow of Oscar L. Davis and is survived by three daughters, Barbara L. Jerkins of Audubon, N.J., Hazel E. Arango and husband Jose of Williamstown, N.J., and Susan B. Hippen of Virginia Beach; a son, Robert J. Bates and Lavaeda of Virginia Beach; a sister, Vivian A. Batchelor of Detroit, Mich.; three grandchildren, O.M. Kelly, Y. Y. Beck and Deidre White; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers and a sister. A Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Catholic Church of St. Mark with the Rev. Fr. James Griffin officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Heart Association. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
