Sylvia Councill Obituary


Sylvia Jean Council RICHMOND - Sylvia Jean Council, 55, of the 5500 block of Ironhorse Road, went home to be with the Lord Nov. 6, 2008. She was a native of Nansemond County (Suffolk). She was a 1972 graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, Suffolk, and attended Virginia University of Lynchburg. She was formerly employed by D&V International Transport. She was a former member of Balm of Gilead Baptist Church of Suffolk and was currently a member of New Deliverance Evangelistic Church where she was a member of the Guardian Angels Ministry and Women's Ministry. She was a devout section leader and member of the Women's Choir, Mass Choir and B.A.S.I.C. Choir. Ms. Council was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Steverson Skeeter and her son, Maurice Council. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Charles Council; her son, Jerron Council (Regina) of Richmond; her father, Frank Skeeter of Suffolk; three sisters, Linda Harris (Russell) and Gloria Dotson (Wayne) of Richmond and Velma Bryant (Anthony) of Suffolk; two brothers-in-law, Phillip Council and Ronald Council; three sisters-in-law, Margaret Orpeza, Ella Lynch and Marion Sykes; goddaughter, Jermile "Millie" Batten; godsister, Elaine Freeman; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; a host of friends and caregivers, Dee Dee Batten, Sharon Morris, Linda Harris, Gloria Dotson and Velma Bryant. A celebration of life service will be held at noon Thursday in New Deliverance Evangelistic Church, 1701 Turner Road, Richmond, officiated by Bishop G.O. Glenn, D. Min. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery, Suffolk. A Christian wake will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Crocker Funeral Home, 900 E. Washington St., Suffolk. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Thursday. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
