Stephen Walentiny Obituary

Stephen J. Walentiny VIRGINIA BEACH - Stephen John Walentiny, 60, was called to join his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Nov. 9, 2008, after a valiant four-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who is now at rest in the arms of God Almighty. Throughout his life, Steve was respected for his positive and upbeat spirit, kindness and love for his family. He never met a stranger and was a man who loved the Lord with all his heart and soul. Born in Tacoma, Wash., Steve retired as a senior chief in the U.S. Navy and this month marked his 21st anniversary with Northrop Grumman. He was a member of the London Bridge Baptist Church family. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Georgianna (Gigi) Walentiny; son, James Walentiny of Bremerton, Wash.; daughter, Jennifer Walentiny Smith and son-in-law Chris Smith of Virginia Beach and son, Matthew Walentiny of Richmond; two brothers, Michael Walentiny of Anderson Island, Wash., and Jerry Walentiny of Fremont, Calif.; two grandchildren, Christopher and Joshua Smith of Virginia Beach. Other survivors include his beloved in-laws, George and Josefine Thompson of Norfolk. He was predeceased by his parents, Loretta and Edward Walentiny. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. A funeral will be conducted in London Bridge Baptist Church, 2460 Potters Road, Virginia Beach, Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Greg Brinson and the Rev. Tom Armbrister officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.hdoliver.com. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 2141 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 7000, El Segundo, CA 90245. "I have fought the good fight. I have completed the race. I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7.
