James Maynard Obituary


James H. Maynard NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. - James Harley Maynard, 92, went home to be with the Lord Nov. 10, 2008. He was born July 14, 1916, in Missouri Branch, W.Va., to Ben and Peggy Maynard. A longtime resident of Virginia, he moved to Jacksonville in 1993 and served in the Army during World War II. A member of Neptune Baptist Church, he was an ordained Southern Baptist minister, a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Family members include his wife, Mary H. Maynard of Tarboro, N.C.; daughter, Nary (Lance G.) Maynard of Portsmouth; son, Jimmie (Nan) Maynard of Neptune Beach; stepson, Linwood "Zeke" (Faye) Heath of Neptune Beach; brother, Claude (Celeste) Wooten of Georgia; daughter-in-law, Sandra Maynard of Portsmouth; grandchildren, James T. Maynard of Jacksonville, Fla., Cindee M. (Jimmy) Rowe of Yulee, Fla., Lance G. "Rusty" (Melissa) Maynard Jr. of Portsmouth, Sheri Anne (Johnny) Webb of Williamsburg, Va., Ronda L. (Lowell) Bassett of Portsmouth, Lori (Matthew) Gooch of Suffolk, Wendy (Rodney) Moore of Suffolk, Kym (Jeff) Bakin of Gainesville, Fla., Lisa H. (Todd) Allison of Jacksonville, Fla., Tammy H. (Steve) Weaver of Jacksonville, Fla.; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife of 62 years, Lois M. Maynard; daughters, Delores Bass and Virginia Shankle; and son, Douglas Maynard. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250, (904) 249-2374. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Neptune Baptist Church, Neptune Beach. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk.
