Doris Belanga

Doris H. Belanga NORFOLK - Doris Hingerty Belanga, 92, passed away Nov. 12, 2008, in Chesapeake. Born Nov. 29, 1915, in Elizabeth City, N.C., she resided in Baumtown on Roanoke Island, N.C., until she moved to Norfolk in 1927. She graduated from Maury High School in 1934 and married W. Howard Belanga in 1936. She was a member of Park Place United Methodist Church, where she served as superintendent of the Children's Department for many years. She was also a member of Messiah United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Dogwood Garden Club for more than 40 years and was a longtime member and past officer of the Suburban Women's Club. She was the daughter of the late Minnie Baum Montague and Robert H. Hingerty. She was predeceased by her husband, William H. Belanga; her stepfather, Gus Montague; her maternal grandparents, Thomas and Lucy Midgett Baum; and paternal grandparents, George W. and Ginevra Crumpler Hingerty. She is survived by her daughter, Mary B. Cullipher and husband Ervin; granddaughter, Holly C. Williams and husband Keith; great-granddaughters, Hannah L. and Darcy L. Williams; grandson, Jon Erick Cullipher and wife Alison Little Cullipher; great-grandson, Jon Howard Cullipher; and two cousins, Thomas Tillett and Ginevra L. Wolfinger. A funeral will be conducted Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, with the Rev. Joseph Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
