Jack Beasley Obituary


Jack W. Beasley Jr. NORFOLK - Jack William Beasley Jr., 56, of Virginia Avenue, died Nov. 15, 2008. Born in North Carolina on Oct. 15, 1952, he was the son of the late Jack W. Beasley Sr. and Helynn Taylor Beasley. Mr. Beasley was retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked for The Virginian-Pilot for 10 years. He was an active member of the Colonial Avenue United Methodist Church and started the soup kitchen at the church. He was also a member of the Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church Bible Study Group and the VFW. Mr. Beasley is survived by his wife, Susan K. Johnson of Norfolk; his son, Jonluke W. Beasley; his brothers, Brian and Gary Beasley; and numerous nieces, nephews and other friends and family. A funeral will be held Wednesday at Colonial Avenue United Methodist Church in Norfolk at 6:30 p.m. Following the services, a reception will be held at the church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the soup kitchen at Colonial Avenue United Methodist Church. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
