Barbara Schell Obituary


Barbara Ann Schell CHESAPEAKE - Barbara Gabbard Goodrich Schell, 73, passed away Nov. 15, 2008, due to complications from pulmonary disease and lung cancer. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by her family. Barbara was born in San Diego, Calif., and raised her four daughters in Portsmouth. A graduate of Cradock High School's class of 1953, she spent nearly 30 years in the television manufacturing field with General Electric and Thomson Consumer Electronics, primarily in quality assurance and customer relations, working in the Portsmouth plant and transferring to Indianapolis, Ind., where she retired. She was extremely devoted to her career, but she took her greatest pride in her daughters and grandchildren giving unconditional love and devotion. Barbara is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Charles Schell; daughters, Patricia Kaplan and husband Joel of Portland, Ore., Sharon Donaldson and fiancé James Donaldson of Portsmouth, Leslie Moseberth and husband Linnie of Chesapeake; stepdaughter, Karen Schell and husband Bill Erdek of Edison, N.J.; seven grandchildren, Lance McCants, Madison and Taylor Kaplan, Joseph and Jessica Donaldson, Linsley and Lysa Moseberth; great-grandson, Cole Donaldson; and brother, Bill Gabbard and wife Susan of Denver. Barbara was preceded in death by her daughter, Diana McCants; granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Beaver; and sister, Glenda Haskell. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home, Churchland chapel, www.lovingfuneralhome.com. Her funeral will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Monsignor Michael D. McCarron officiating. Burial will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend a reception immediately following the services at the Church of St. Stephen, Martyr, 1544 S. Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake, www.ssmrcc.org.
