Thomas O'Connor Obituary


Thomas J. O'Connor Jr. VIRGINA BEACH - Thomas Jeffreys O'Connor Jr. died Nov. 20, 2008 in Sentara Virginia Beach General. Mr. O'Connor was born Sept. 16, 1948 in Lansing, Mich., the son of Elizabeth O'Connor and the late Thomas J. O'Connor Sr. Mr. O'Connor was a resident of Tidewater for 50 years and attended Norfolk Catholic High School and Old Dominion University. He was a member of Church of the Ascension Catholic in Virginia Beach and also a member of the International Longshoreman's Association Local No. 1624. He retired after 39 years of employment. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 32 years, Paula O'Connor; two daughters, Jennifer Strach and her husband Adam and Lindsey O'Connor; his son, John Michael O'Connor; his granddaughter, Maya Strach; his mother, Elizabeth O'Connor; four sisters, Norma Jean Pope, Therese Raunswinter, Mary McCanna and Susie Austin; and two brothers, William O'Connor and Patrick O'Connor. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen O'Connor Neff. A Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Church of the Ascension Catholic Church by Father James Parke and Monsignor William Pitt. A wake will be Monday at 6 p.m. in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia, 800 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk.
